Image editing is not as simple as it sounds. Contrary to the notion that anyone with a digital camera, a computer and a mouse can create photographs of worth, the process of turning out quality products is not that easy. Image editing requires not just the basic skills that a person is born with, but also some qualities either picked up from training and educational courses or studied at length. To do good work, the necessary equipment and software programs should also be present.

Not only is image editing applicable to any form of media that has an image, but it can also be used to refer to the art of putting together a picture using only digital tools. This can be termed “computer art” or “digital art.”

Natural abilities are the most crucial elements in image editing. One has to have an eye for color, a good grasp of depth and perception, a sense of appropriateness, sound aesthetic judgment, and that innate artistic style artists are born with. Other characteristics may be needed, depending on the industry or business.

Of course, working with all those programs to do the actual editing is a must. Expertise in editing programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Corel Photo-Paint, among many others, is the foundation of image editing. These programs have many different features to help in the process of editing, for example, layering, cropping and noise removal. Although the basics of these editing procedures may be quickly picked up by a newbie, it takes some lengthy training ang concentration on the field before one can truly master the art of image editing.
